Brett the Jet

Brett the Jet

The Jet’s are always mentioned in the rumors of any big free agent or trade possibility.  I got a call waking me just after 1:00am.

“Are you watching ESPN?” the voice said.

“Did we get him?” I replied.

The deal was done, Favre for a conditional draft pick.  A 4th round pick right now, up to a 1st round pick if the Jets make the Super Bowl.

This brings back memories of players like Ronnie Lott & Art Monk coming to the Jets in the 90′s.  Hall of Fame, game changing stars, reduced to role players.

I believe Favre can still play at a very high level.  I never thought he would retire after the loss to the Giants.  He’s far to competitive to end his career on an interception.

Favre put the Packers in a difficult situation, they have their new franchise quarterback right where they want him.  No, not Aaron Rodgers, Brian Brohm.  Aaron Rodgers will ‘take one for the team’.  Packers fans will never accept him, especially now.  After his first interception the fans will be calling for Brohm to replace him.

The Atlanta/Louisville connection.

16 years ago, the Jets had Favre #1 on their draft board.  They had no first round pick, and held the 34th overall pick.  Unfortunately the 33rd pick would snag Favre.  The Jets would take Browning Nagle from Louisville.  Nagle was known to throw the ball deep and hard.  Unfortunately he would throw the ball short and hard as well.  (He was actually drafted into pro baseball as a pitcher years before)  Nagles career would take him through Atlanta, the same team that stole Louisville’s (Brohm’s) coach last year, the team that originally drafted Favre.  Now Brohm will be Favres replacement in Green Bay and the Jets get the guy they wanted all along, since 1991.
